August Challenge

Well folks, it has been a long summer, and we wanted to kick the challenges off with something simple so everyone can get back into the swing of things!  August is going to be a very exciting month around here- school supplies are out in the stores, along with some wonderful new products for crafters!  Stay tuned over the next couple weeks as we get ready for another Armory Crop and the Rubber Stamping and Scrapbook Expo- right next door in Greeley!  So dust of your crafting corner for an exciting craft-filled month!  Ready?  Good!

August Challenge

That's right- just one challenge- but this one can be color schemes, layouts, techniques- whatever you are inspired to do!  The only rule is to post a pic of what inspired you along with your entry!

Here are some ideas to get you started:
CCEE Stampers challenge based on Williams-Sonoma food pic

• A while back I noticed a fun project challenge on a blog I follow.  Every week they would post a photograph of very artfully placed food items from Williams-Sonoma catalogs, and the participants had to come up with a paper craft design (card, page layout) based on some aspect of the food shot.  Some focused on the repetition of certain shapes, some on specific color combinations, and some used the layout of plate and food items to generate their own project.

While I noticed this cool challenge, I did not have the opportunity to participate, but thought it was a great way to promote people to find inspiration in the most unusual of places.  After all, they do call it the “culinary arts”; aesthetics remain basically the same.  Do you have any magazines or cookbooks with neat food pictures that could translate into a card?  What about a scrapbook page layout?

Verve Challenge ideas from Bed Bath & Beyond

Verve Stamps is currently running a challenge on Splitcoaststampers where every week they look at a different room of a house and have challenges based on that room.  They offer layout, which can be matched with whatever that room inspires them to do.  You can find out more at this week's challenge post.

• Sometimes "necessity is the mother of invention."  Ever look at a kleenex box or tea kettle and have the sudden desire to crochet or sew a cozy for it?   Here in a couple months we'll be getting loads of snow- and a bare head is certainly inspiration for that knitted hat you have been wanting to learn how to make!  And what about that painting, looking so lonely without a proper frame- I bet you can build one!  This challenge is open for your own interpretation!

• I love to get ideas from all sorts of places- but this challenge starts right where you are, right now!  Look around your computer, car, kitchen, the kids' toy box, anywhere in the house...  there are loads of possibilities!

Don't forget!

Be sure to post a picture of what inspired you, along with the final project!  Deadline is the end of August, and you may enter as often as you like!

This month's amazing prize is another mini-kit full of papers, stamps, and more! Picture to be posted soon!

PLUS- "Committed" crafters (like June and Lindsay) earn DOUBLE POINTS!  Try to keep up with them, or join to double your entries for this great prize and more!
